How Starlink works

Starlink is a satellite internet service operated by SpaceX. A small dish on your roof, in your garden or on your camper van connects to satellites flying in low Earth orbit at roughly 480 to 550 km. Because they fly so low, the delay is typically 20 to 50 milliseconds, similar to DSL and far lower than classic satellite internet from 36,000 km.

In October 2026 around 11,000 Starlink satellites were operational, and Starlink had more than 12 million customers worldwide as of June 2026. Starlink is a strong option wherever fibre, cable or good 5G is not available: in rural homes, camper vans, boats and holiday homes.

Frequently asked questions

How much does Starlink cost?

It depends on the country. In Germany residential plans start at 35 € per month. Hardware, activation fees and electricity come on top. Pick your country above for full local prices.

Is Orbitmeter affiliated with Starlink or SpaceX?

No. Orbitmeter is an independent guide. Prices come from the official Starlink pages of each country and are shown with the date they were last checked. Some links are referral links, which are always marked.

Why are Starlink prices different in every country?

Starlink sets plans, prices and hardware offers per country and sometimes per address, depending on local demand and network capacity. That is why we keep a separate, local version for every country we cover.

How many Starlink satellites are there?

In October 2026 around 11,000 Starlink satellites were operational in low Earth orbit, at an altitude of roughly 480 to 550 km. Starlink had more than 12 million customers worldwide as of June 2026.
